“I don’t think they like me much anymore.”
Donald Trump Jr. believes the hosts of “The View” were “triggered” when he appeared on the show Thursday.
Coincidentally, “Triggered” is the name of the book Don Jr. was there to promote — which he says he was unable to plug while taping the morning show, a complaint he made later that day while on “Hannity.”
“You would think if you were invited on a show, and they build it up, and they’re giving you three segments — you’d think, if you’re there to promote a book, they’d ask you one question about the actual book,” he told Fox’s Sean Hannity.
To be fair to the hosts, 3,000 segments may not have been enough to get through all the talking points they would have liked to visit; indeed the heated show descended into a six-way shouting match on more than one occasion, as Whoopi Goldberg had to bang her school bell to bring the “children” to order.
“They were obviously triggered. I don’t think they like me much anymore,” Trump Jr. said afterward.
But the hosts settled for the most recent controversy, attacking Trump Jr. for tweeting the whistleblower’s name; he defended by claiming the name was already out there, insisting he was just retweeting it, and countered by asking where was the same outrage when his family were sent an explosive package in the mail. The panel questioned whether or not this story was even true.
“I wish they would have shown a little bit of the same amount of outrage when my family opened up a white powder substance in an exploding envelope that showed up at my house,” Trump Jr. said afterwards. “These guys are full of it, Sean.”
It was a risky move for Trump Jr. and girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle to walk into the “lion’s den”; the panel spend a sizable portion of every episode criticizing his father, President Donald Trump, while Trump Senior spends a sizeable portion of every day attacking the so-called liberal media and its “fake news”.
Indeed the only conservative member on the panel — Meghan McCain — might be the biggest Trump critic of all, as her late father Senator John McCain was an outspoken critic.
Trump Jr. deflected criticism of his family’s character by directing attacks on Joy Behar and Whoopi, following his own advice from his book “Triggered” which claims “offense is the best defense.”
“We’ve all done things we regret. Joy, you’ve worn blackface,” he accused, referring to photos Behar herself shared on the show showing her dressed as an African woman (after the show, Don Jr. tweeted links to those photos). “Whoopi, you said Roman Polanski, it wasn’t rape rape when he raped a child. Let’s talk about serious things,” he then added, referring to comments Goldberg made in 2009 (something Don Jr. also tweeted after the show).
“I did not go in blackface!” exclaimed Behar, with Goldberg having her back. “Sorry, being black, I recognize blackface. This I can say.”
When asked by Hannity why he even bothered going on, he replied: “You know, every once in a while you got to try. You gotta try to speak to everyone. Hopefully they listen. In that case, they didn’t.”
